Dive the Mikhail Lermontov

Diving the Mikhail Lermontov has to be one of the best wreck dives in the Southern Hemisphere! It is conducive for all levels of wreck diver (see our prerequisites) from beginner to advanced Wreck Penetration diver.

We will be spending 5 days diving over the Lermontov in comfort onboard the MV Affinity.

The vessel Affinity was purpose built in Picton by Carey’s Boatyard for the type of cruising that she does. Affinity has 8 guest cabins, a comfortable lounge for dining and relaxing and a spacious deck.

Accommodation is onboard the vessel in eight cabins (twin share – bed and bunk or double bed)

All cruises are fully catered and all linen is supplied

3 bathrooms facilities, separate ladies and men’s, with a good supply of hot water and these are found on the main deck

Air conditioning for summer and central heating for winter

Spacious vessel both inside and out, including a comfortable lounge area

Easy access both on and off the vessel, and with both platform steps at the stern of the vessel

4-meter inflatable tender for shore excursions and for use when divers are in the water

We will need to get a ferry from Wellington to Picton (in the South Island) Here is a link to book your ferry tickets. Ferry tickets are priced at $55 - $75 each way. The Interislander ferry takes approx 3 hours.  Ferry timetable normally is pretty stable and we leave at 2:55pm, arriving in Picton approx 6pm. We will board the Affinity and load up all the gear. We will then cast off and sail to Boat cove for the night.

First thing in the morning we will steam round the Point (the same route the illfated Lermontov took) and into Gore Bay where the Lermi is lying. We will then spend the next 5 days diving the ship. We will moor over the wreck so you can enjoy unlimited diving!

On the afternoon of Day 5 we will steam back to Picton and spend the night onboard the boat. Then in the morning (day 6) we get the morning ferry (10:00am) back to Wellington. Getting into Wellington approx 3 hours later. Any people flying in from Overseas it would probably be advisable to leave a good few hours before your flights as if the weather is rough over Cook Straight the ferry might be delayed.

It is a short cab ride from the ferry terminal to the Airport.

A Sample Itinerary:

Day 0 - Board Ferry in Wellington at 2:55pm bound for Picton. Load up vessel and sail 3/4 the way to the Lermi.

Day 1 - Dive the Mikhail Lermontov

Day 2 - Dive the Mikhail Lermontov

Day 3 - Dive the Mikhail Lermontov

Day 4 - Dive the Mikhail Lermontov

Day 5 - Dive the Mikhail Lermontov and steam back to Picton in the afternoon/early evening.

Day 6 - Get Ferry back to Wellington 10:40am ferry ( or earlier)

So You Will Need To:

Be in Wellington Interislander Ferry Terminal (there are 2 so make sure you are on the right Ferry!) at least 2 hours before sailing so we can get the gear loaded onto the ferry. There is an earlier ferry leaving at 9:30am which would be another option.
